Bike! Bike! Day 1
August 28, 2009
Hi everyone, Boson from Velocipede here.
I figured I’d write a little bit about this year’s trip to Bike!Bike!, an annual international conference of non-profit bike projects. This year the event is taking place at the Grease Pit in Minneapolis. Thursday was a meet-and-greet, followed by shop hours for visitors (such as myself) to fix up a loaner bike for the weekend.

We arrived at the Bedlam Theater by light rail directly from the airport (talk about amazing public transportation). The Bedlam Theatre is a community theatre that also houses the Grease Pit.

The Grease Pit was chaotic in the best possible sense: crackling full of energy.

Friday is our first day of the conference so I’ll write more afterwards. So far Minneapolis is gorgeous and it’s an exciting time; people from all over have convened here in Minneapolis for this weekend and it’s an amazing experience to encounter all these people who are passionate about using bicycles as an educational and empowering tool to help their local communities
sorry to announce this but we’ll not be able to have shop night tonight.
Dear Veloci-members:
Due to my forgetfulness of today (may 25th) being Memorial Day, I had earlier scheduled tonight to be a clinic on Gears and Chains. We will be moving this clinic to the next available day (June 8th). Sorry for the late notice.
Have a good Memorial Day!
Hi everyone,
Do you have carpentry skills/experience?
If so, we would love to talk to you; We are in the process of building
new storage solutions and would love any volunteers who do have some
experience with working with wood. If you are interested and would like
to lend a hand, please send an email to Peter Hegel (the coordinator of
this project) at pshegel2002@yahoo.com
because of this, we are also announcing that the shop will be closed from
Tuesday, may 19th until the following Sunday, the 24th. We will be doing
some internal reorganizing of the shop, building new storage solutions and
the like. For those who paid a membership fee your membership will be
extended an extra week.
thank you everyone,
-vpede
Sorry for such a late notice but we have to close the shop today, sunday, may 10th. It’s mothers day and many of us will be off to see family.
have a happy mothers day,
- Velocipede
Rod Bruckdorfer, our presenter for tomorrow’s Touring Workshop, has created a pdf answering commonly asked questions about touring equipment and it is available for download here.
General discussions about touring equipment
In addition, Jessie Oppeheimer has also provided us with a PDF detailing international touring bikes:
These are both excellent guides on touring and are filled to the brim with information. We will continue hosting these documents (in a soon to be completed library section of our site ) but in the meantime, feel free to share!
