repeated the current adopted mission statement: (from forum post)
“Velocipede Bike Project is a collectively-run non-profit organization centered around the collection, repair, and redistribution of bicycles in the Baltimore area. Velocipede promotes the use of bicycles not only as means of transportation and recreation, but also to encourage and provide volunteerism, education, healthier lifestyles, and community involvement, as well as to create a more sustainable urban environment. ”
Peter passed the following points:
-Defining what a Mission Statement is vs Vision:
A Mission Statement is a statement of what we do.
Vision = how we do it.
Historical Info doesn’t need to be in the mission statement.
Noah: there is a disconnect between the mission statement 3 years ago and of today.
Anna: We should make sure the mission statement have very focused direction.
Lars: likes the lack of direction, because things change. (ie: if we are only about education, we might neglect other aspects)
Peter: We need to incorporate the following aspects into our mission statement: Education, provide fixable bikes, and provide workshop space.
Lars: what is important: We’re a hub of reuse of bikes. We devoted to reusing bikes, we facilitate the repair of bikes.
Anna: Provide a functional, shared workspace.
Gabby: Can we say we do stuff ourselves?
Lars: self reliance + mutual aid.
Gabby: Add Sustainability & Environment: reuse + recycling.
Anna: Maybe we need to mention who we serve.
Noah: Community Building
Lars: We serve BALTIMORE. Also people use vpede as a dumping ground. we reuse bicycles.
Peter: we need to prioritize these things. I want to answer, “What is vpede trying to do and how?”
